When you are in the midst of trying to build a long-term education or work full-time, it can be hard to fit in a few hours per day of learning a secondary language. For teachers and tutors, too, there’s a lot of struggle and challenge.

It’s why, for both student and tutor, that the range of teaching English jobs online that exist has grown so extensively.

Jobs teaching English online have become extensive and important for those looking to make the most of their time at night. For example, rather than trying to learn with a tool such as Duolingo and going it alone, you could sit and learn with an ESL tutor who provides online coaching. This is much better for a student, as it allows them to give it 100%.

When you’ve been home and had time to relax post-work/school, it becomes easier to go back into a learning mode rather than feeling like all day, every day, works out the same.

So, with this in mind, what makes students the ones to benefit primarily from using the various jobs teaching English online to accelerate their learning?

  • For one, a student is not going to be so tired. When they are drained from taking classes all day, the last thing they want is 2-3 hours at the end of school in a classroom environment learning.   • Motivation plays a big part, too. When you can learn at home with the comfort of your own household, then it becomes easier to stay motivated and actually want to learn. With that in mind, then, most students would prefer to work in this manner. It means they can spend more time relaxing before going back to learning at home, rather than having to attend physical classes.
  • Students are more likely to feel comfortable working with online tutors, too, if they can offer rapport. In a large classroom environment building rapport is a nightmare – nearly impossible. With a student online learning English, though, the are usually 1-to-1 making it so much easier to learn and grow along the way.
  • Another major factor that stems from this, however, comes from the importance of picking up mistakes. Again, in a large classroom, it can feel tough to notice the mistakes and limitations that exist in a student’s English. By working together, these are spotted faster and eradicated before mistakes become bad habits that linger and never leave.

So, with all of this in mind, are you likely to take things further online or offline?

Because of this, we may give students general guidelines and strategies instead of being explicit and providing much-needed examples. One tidbit of advice that I gave to my students when I was teaching in Myanmar was to make sure that they spent a lot of time thinking in English. But in a get paid to teach English online jobs, that advice in and of itself might not enough because these students are still kids. If I expected them to really put my advice into practice, I had to specifically give them examples of ways in which they could incorporate this into their daily life.

Below are some of the tangible ways that can ensure that your students will be thinking of English outside of the classroom.

Set up English speaking peer groups

We know that in a teach English jobs online, in order to learn a language, students have to practice speaking to others in authentic situations. Setting up peer groups is one fun way to facilitate and encourage this. Just as content area teachers assign group projects pertaining to their content area, ESL teachers can assign group projects with the goal of increasing the amount of time students spend in meaningful communication outside of class. I would pick specific locations for them to meet like the coffee house, restaurant, or the local park. This was they were naturally exposed to different situations to use English.  

As with any group project, you should be purposeful in how students are grouped in order to achieve the maximum benefit. Also, there should be some sort of final product — as well as several smaller ones along the way — to give students the opportunity to demonstrate what they’re doing and learning. These products will also allow you to adequately supervise, assess and advise them along the way.

Effective Utilization of library

Reading teachers understand that reading as much as possible is a major key to improving reading fluency. This is also true for gaining reading fluency in another language. Unfortunately, not all students will have access to English books at their level, and others will need assistance in choosing books that are appropriate for their specific reading levels and interests.

Effective utilization of library is one way to make sure your students have access to an adequate amount of reading materials for at-home reading practice. Accessing virtual libraries like Open Library and Lit2Go is another option to consider, especially if your resources are limited.

Limiting Teacher Talking Time

As a teacher of English teacher jobs online, you probably know all the research regarding decreasing TTT and ensuring that student talking time is maximized. The research behind this is substantial, to say the least, and I dare not attempt to touch on all of it here. However, I do want to point out that the more opportunities you give your students to speak in class, the more likely it is that they’ll be using the language as often as possible outside of the classroom.

By maximizing student talking time, you’re demonstrating to your students that they have an active role to play in the conversation and English learning as a whole. With that idea instilled in them, they’re more likely to play a more active role in learning the language outside of your classroom.

Make your classroom speaking and listening experiences as authentic as possible

Some experts wholeheartedly believe that, when it comes to language learning, the words “classroom” and “authentic” are incompatible. This is probably true in many situations. However, in a teach English jobs online, I do think that it’s possible to strategically incorporate authentic speaking and listening time into your lessons and meet your learning objectives at the same time.

The key to this is pretty simple: build opportunities for your students to talk about things that interest them. This will show them that you’re interested in what they have to say and what they like. Maintain a positive and encouraging atmosphere for these experiences to take place and don’t be afraid to get off track (you can always get back on track later). After all, the overall goal isn’t for the students to learn scripts or how to answer questions correctly. We want them to ultimately be comfortable with spontaneous, authentic communication. The way to get there is to practice spontaneous, authentic communication!

These few points can go a long way in impacting your kids with the basic English language skills they require by keeping their minds open and with the desire of practicing on their own.

Motivation in the ESL classroom is easily one of the most important factors as I’m sure most teachers would agree with me. The main reason I’m coming to this point of view is that most of our students have low motivation to learn English. In addition to that, while most of them have a vague sense that whether “English will be useful for my future” or not, they don’t have a clear idea of what that means, nor is that a very strong motivator; it’s too vague and too far off.

The first step in tackling the problem of motivation is that the teachers need to understand and appreciate the role and importance of motivation in any learning this might be advantageous when searching for the best teaching online jobs.

In second language learning as in every other field of human learning, motivation is the critical force which determines whether a learner embarks on a task at all, how much energy he devotes to it, and how long he perseveres. It is a complex phenomenon and includes many components: the child’s drive, need for achievement and success, curiosity, desire for stimulation and new experience, and so on. These factors play a role in every kind of learning situation.

The Error Correction 

In a home-based online teaching job, It is always asked whether we should correct all students’ errors, whenever they occur. The reasonable answer is that if we stop at every single error and treat it with no room for errors to take place, this will lead to a gap of communication and students will be too much afraid of making mistakes. Hence, due to being too much obsessed with making errors, students will be too much reluctant to participate.Thus, Teachers should be aware of when to correct errors and how to do that without any hurt and humiliation. In a learner-centered classroom, it should be better to correct errors, which students make unconsciously, whenever there is a gap of communication or when not treating the error will result in a misunderstanding of the idea expressed.

Concerning the ways of how to correct errors, there are several techniques which the teacher, who is seen as the monitor, should choose from them according to the type of the error and task where the incorrect form of language occurs. Among these ways of correction, we can state self-correction, peer correction, and teacher correction.


This is another technique to teach English jobs online so to vary the pace the lesson and to respond to the fundamental notion of variety in teaching. Teachers are advised to use the role- play activity in order to motivate their students and to help the less motivated learners take part in the lesson. Besides, certain tasks in the student’s book are followed by a role-play activity where it becomes a necessity to undergo such an activity. As good examples of that, we can state: the hide (item) and guessing game, dramatize an interview of customer and shop assistant, doctor and patient conversation, etc…

Using realia, flash cards, Stories and songs in teaching 

Realia and flash cards are considered as important tools in teaching for every best teaching online jobs, especially a foreign language, since they play the role of a facilitator in teaching new vocabularies such as fruits, vegetables, clothes items, etc… Besides, they are very helpful in drawing especially beginners’ attention to follow and match new words to items. In addition, realia is an authentic material that helps the teacher to overcome classroom artificiality. Creating stories with the students is another way of developing speaking and writing skills. Actually, creating stories is grounded in the students’ ability to create a story from their personal experience. In creating stories, some issues are revealed, such as a) fluency, b) whether the students have enough language to create the story, and c) accuracy.

Teachers in a home based online teaching jobs are able to demonstrate techniques of using songs in different ways to teach grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation and community building because the students like songs and they motivate the students to learn the English language in an interesting way. Teachers can elicit students’ ideas about the song through activities such as prediction, mind maps, word splashes, etc. Students discuss questions such as the feelings in the song, what will happen next, etc. and write their responses in an interesting manner. Students may write and present how the song makes them feel and then draw a picture of their feelings while listening to the song. Teachers respond to this presentation and ask questions. Then, feedback is provided.
